Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
